RISHIKESH:-
Rishikesh, also known as the 'City Of Saints' is at the confluence of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga. It is believed that God by the name of 'Hrishikesh' appeared as an answer to the hard penances by Rabhiya Rishi and henceforth the place derived its name.
A busy little town on the banks of the holy Ganges at the foot of the Himalayas, Rishikesh is the gateway to the Garhwal in the Himalayas. In the district of Dehradun, Rishikesh is situated at an altitude of 1360 ft above sea level. Rishikesh is located precisely on the part in Uttaranchal known as Tehri-Garhwal region. A tour to Rishikesh is usually undertaken as part of a visit to Hardwar, Mussoorie and Dehradun.
It is the starting point for the Char Dham pilgrims and also for the people who are interested in meditation, yoga and other aspects of Hinduism. For the adventure seekers, Rishikesh is the suggested place for starting their trekking expeditions to the Himalayan peaks and for rafting. By Rail :-The nearest railway station is Haridwar.
By Road :-The government operates regular bus services from Delhi, Agra, Dehra Dun, Mussoorie, Haridwar, Chandigarh, Shimla, etc.
